Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

For Adults (about 18 and older), the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the usual process of welcoming new members into the Roman Catholic faith. Those who are unbaptized, baptized in another Christian denomination, or Catholics who have not participated in the sacraments beyond Baptism come together with members of the St. Ignatius community to hear Scripture, reflect on its meaning for their lives, and study the teachings of the Catholic Church. After prayer and discernment, the whole community celebrates Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil with those who are called to follow Jesus in the Roman Catholic tradition. For Youth (7 - about 18 yrs.), the Rite of Christian Initiation provides a process for welcoming youth into the Roman Catholic faith. Like their adult counterparts, youth also hear the Scriptures and study the teachings of the Catholic Church with peers and then celebrate the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

Baptism
For Infants & Children (newborn through 6 yrs.), Baptism is celebrated at the regular Sunday liturgies on several designated Sundays during the year. To prepare for this Sacrament, parents and godparents must register with the parish and attend classes on the meaning and ritual of Baptism. Call the parish office to register at 503-777-1491 ext. 226.

INFANT BAPTISM
APRIL 17-18 * JUNE 12-13

If you would like your child baptized in 2010, please call Patty at the front office at 503-777-1491 to register and to receive a schedule of classes. Baptisms will take place April 17-18, and June 12-13. Thank you!

Confirmation

Those who receive the Sacrament of Confirmation "are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed" (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1285).
In keeping with the customs of the Archdiocese, those who have at least begun high school and have not already been confirmed are invited to prepare to receive this sacrament which, with Baptism and Eucharist, completes full initiation into the Church, the Body of Christ.

The deadline for confirmation registration was September 11th. Confirmation classes will be offered again in Fall 2011. Contact Molly Cullen at mcullen@stignatiusparish.org or 503-777-1491 ext. 227 if you have any questions.
