Faith Formation: Jess Heringer, Pastoral Assistant
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
- Are you, your spouse, a friend, or an acquaintance a member of another faith tradition but worship regularly here at St. Ignatius?
- Are you experiencing God’s call in your life and seeking Baptism or full communion with the Catholic Church? If you are, please consider participating in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) at St. Ignatius. RCIA offers the opportunity to explore with others what the Catholic Church has to offer and serves as the gradual process of welcoming new members into the Roman Catholic Church. St. Ignatius has begun hosting RCIA sessions this summer, and adults are welcome to begin the process on an on-going basis.
Adults from many walks of life participate in RCIA – those who are unbaptized, Christians baptized in another denomination, or Catholics who have not participated in the sacraments beyond Baptism. Over the course of an extended period of time, often one year, RCIA participants gather weekly with members of St. Ignatius community to hear Scripture, reflect on its meaning for their lives, and study the teachings of the Catholic Church. After months of preparation and prayer, the whole community celebrates Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil with those who have discerned a call to be initiated in the Roman Catholic tradition.
The Rite of Christian Initiation also provides an adapted process for welcoming youth (7 - 18 yrs.) into the Roman Catholic Church. Like their adult counterparts, youth also hear the Scriptures and study the teachings of the Catholic Church with peers and then celebrate the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.
St. Ignatius parish has begun hosting RCIA sessions this summer, and adults are welcome to begin the process on an on-going basis. Since the RCIA process involves significant preparation and adult baptisms are celebrated once a year (April 4, 2014), we encourage those who are interested to contact pastoral assistant, Jess Heringer, firstname.lastname@example.org 503-777-1491, ext. 238, to schedule an initial conversation at your earliest convenience.
